Review: Tantus Mini Magma

The Tantus Mini Magma is a funny little creature: with its curved head and drip-covered shaft, it kind of looks like a chestburster from Alien – albeit an itty bitty one, the cute runt of the Xenomorph litter. Despite its diminutive size, though, this petite dildo packs a surprisingly nice punch.

And yes, the Mini Magma is mini. Much smaller than I expected it to be, in all honesty (blame my quick trigger-finger for shopping any time an interesting orgasm seems possible, and a dearth of reviews for this toy). Measuring in at a slight 1-inch diameter at the head (the largest part), the shaft is even thinner (about .75 inches according to my measuring tape). The long “drips” going down the shaft from the head supply a bit of extra girth, but this is definitely a thin, small dildo. The larger Magma, which tops out at about 1.5 inches and has more intense texture, will be a better fit for people wanting a more average-sized dildo.

But I bought this dildo when I was being treated for vaginismus and was still getting used to penetration, at a time when I couldn’t even fathom using something much thicker than the Mini Magma. It was one of the few small, but still unique/textured dildos I was able to find, and for that alone I think it’s notable. It’s a great toy if you’re getting used to penetration or dilation for any reason and want something small with a little more going on.

The Mini Magma is made of Tantus’s single-density, “super soft” silicone, which, at least to my hands, feels fairly hard to the touch, providing only a small amount of give kind of similar to rubber or a hard bouncy ball. (Phallophile Reviews has the most comprehensive overview of silicone toy firmness across brands, and it includes the Mini Magma.) It’s for the best, though, because the drips going down the shaft feel subtle on such a slim toy, and combined with the smooth, hard silicone and some water-based lube (the only type of lube that won’t degrade your silicone toys), the effect is a dildo with interest that doesn’t feel annoying – or, for better or worse, even very noticeable at first. Still, the texture manages to deliver some light pinpoint pleasure at strategic spots: the long drip at the front center of the shaft rolls underneath my clit, and the other drips provide constant, gentle stimulation to my vaginal opening.

The Mini Magma, looking like a little alien at a drag show.

The Mini is meant for g-spot or prostate stimulation, so it also features an upward curve and a bulbous head. The head features three waves of texture that pull and tug at my g-spot, teasingly at first but becoming more insistent as I thrust faster and get closer to orgasm. The Mini Magma does deliver on g-spot orgasms; in fact, it makes the pursuit almost effortless. The protruding head hones in on my g-spot perfectly; especially since this is a shorter toy (4.5 inches of insertable length), it leaves little room for confusion about how far it needs to go in to hit at least near the g-spot, which makes me think it might be good for folks looking to find their g-spot for the first time with a toy that’s not too formidable.

I will say, I wish the Mini Magma had slightly more girth, even if only toward the base – something a bit easier to thrust with (as this has a tendency to bend at weird angles if you’re not careful, due to its thin stem), and a little something more to grip and clench on during orgasm. Call me the Goldilocks of dildos, but I would love something that comes in right between the Mini Magma and the regular Magma’s measurements.

On the other hand, if I use the Mini Magma for a longer session, the texture from the drips can get a little uncomfortable running over the same spots again and again for me, so maybe I’m wrong! Maybe an extra quarter-inch would do more harm than good for a vadge as fussy as mine. But the truth is, as effortless and easy as the Mini makes g-spot orgasms, it also doesn’t give me the most intense orgasms, and I think even just a tiny bit more girth would go a long way towards making this toy more memorable. But as I said earlier, this was a great dildo for me when I was first starting out; I definitely recommend it to those newer to penetration, or to anyone who just wants a slimmer dildo that targets the g-spot.

Even though I don’t use it very often anymore, I think the Mini Magma’s time will come again: I’m saving this for a day when I’m feeling braver about my butthole, or more ambitious… but not today, kids. Not today.

For about $30, you can buy your Tantus Mini Magma in red, black, metallic copper, or metallic silver from Tantus (and if you use this affiliate link, I will be forever grateful to you!). And wow, I can’t believe we’ve made it to the end of this review and I didn’t make even one period joke. Look at that thing.
