Review: Lovehoney Mon Ami Trio of Vibrating Massagers

The Lovehoney Mon Ami Trio of Vibrating Massagers is delightfully unassuming – coming in three primary colors with smooth silicone bodies in simple shapes, at a quick glance you might mistake them for toys of a totally different variety. At their diminutive size, they’re perfect for travel or easy, discreet storage (while packing a surprising punch), and priced at $64.99, they’re a great value for anyone looking to explore a variety of sensations without breaking the bank.

The Specs

The Trio consists of three vibrators in three different designs:

  • Blue Cone: For focused, pinpoint stimulation
  • Red Flutter: For a perfectly vulva-encompassing fluttery sensation, curved to fit the body, with a nub that hits more directly on the clitoris (of course, I’m sure it could encompass other body parts as well, I’m just speaking from my own experience)
  • Yellow Wand: For broader, less intense stimulation

All three vibrators are made of smooth silicone (so use them with water-based lube, rather than silicone, to ensure your toys stay in good condition for years to come), making them body-safe and easy to clean. Each vibrator boasts three speeds and seven different patterns, including a couple of stop-start/”morse code” patterns and a few rollercoaster patterns—my personal favorite—in varying speeds and strengths. Each vibrator is fully waterproof, USB-rechargeable, and lasts for approximately 70 minutes on a full charge.

What I Love About the Mon Ami Trio

The smooth, seamless designs. The velvety-smooth, seamless silicone bodies of these vibes are a true pleasure to hold, touch, and feel against your body. With a dollop of lube, these babies glide effortlessly over my skin, and their lack of seams makes them exceedingly comfortable to use and even easier to clean afterwards.

The variety of shapes and sensations. Obviously, the variety in this set is one of the biggest draws. Compared to my favorite bullet vibe, the WeVibe Tango X, which is currently priced at $79, this set provides a very good value at less than one-third the price per vibrator, while also allowing the user to explore a larger variety of sensations. The Trio has fewer speed settings than the Tango X (three versus the Tango’s eight), but the same number of patterns (seven). And as outlined in the specs above, the Trio’s three vibes all have distinctly different designs that provide distinctly different sensations. If you’re new to vibrators and unsure of what you like, this set could be a great way to discover what you enjoy, and even if you’re an experienced toy user, this set is still a great way to get a nice amount of range for your money.

My personal favorite is the Red Flutter – I love holding its ergonomic, curved shape against my vulva and feeling the all-encompassing vibrations wash over me, especially on one of the rollercoaster settings.

Waterproof and USB-rechargeable. I’m a sucker for a waterproof bullet vibe – nothing says “vacation vibrator” more than a tiny, stick-it-in-your-suitcase waterproof bullet. And being USB-rechargeable (rather than battery-operated) is basically a must for me. Who has time to find batteries?

The price. As I mentioned above, compared to my favorite bullet (the Tango X at $79), these three vibes are a steal if you’re looking for quality and variety without an eye-watering price tag.

Things That Could Be Pros or Cons, Depending

They pack an extremely strong punch. This could be good or bad, depending on how sensitive your bits are. Because I’m still recovering from a traumatic vulvar injury, even the lowest settings on these vibes are bit too intense for me when placed directly on my clit or vulva. For that reason, they are strictly over-the-underwear vibes for me at the moment – but I’m fine with that (I sometimes even prefer the reduced mess that comes with over-the-clothes masturbating!). If you’re looking for a small vibrator that really delivers in terms of power, I absolutely recommend these. While their vibrations are not as rumbly as my Tango X, they also aren’t “buzzy” in a way that’s unpleasant or clit-numbing (at least for me).

Single button design. Each vibrator has a single button on the bottom of the toy, so you have to cycle through the full range of speeds and patterns (ten clicks altogether) to get back to the beginning. This can be a little annoying, but it’s also not uncommon, especially for vibrators of this size. It also adds to the simplicity of the design, which you may like, or not.

Noise level. The noise level on these isn’t bad at all, but they’re not silent either. Louder than my Tango X, but quiet enough to not be heard if I’m under the covers, I find the noise level is perfectly acceptable for apartment living. Still, if you’re very self-conscious about anyone hearing and you live with your parents or a roommate or something, these might not be the whisper-silent toys you need.

What I Don’t Like About the Trio

They can be a bit hand-numbing. Because their bodies are made entirely of single pieces of silicone, and the vibrations themselves are so strong, I did find my hand feeling a little “numbed-out” after using them for a while (the feeling was the worst with the Blue Cone and least problematic with the Yellow Wand). If you get too much lube on them, they can also get quite slippery due to their lack of a differentiated handle (of course, that’s not too uncommon for bullet vibes). This isn’t much of an issue for me, but I can imagine it being a bigger problem for anyone with grip or mobility issues.

Maybe a little glitchy? When Lovehoney initially sent me this set, the Blue Cone vibe wouldn’t hold a charge, making it impossible to use. Luckily, as soon as I contacted the company to let them know, they immediately sent me an entire replacement set (so some lucky friend of mine will be receiving the two extra – unused! – vibes I got). I’ve also seen at least one other review claiming that the travel lock on their Blue Cone vibe didn’t work as intended, making me wonder if these vibrators have a few programming glitches. Either way, though, Lovehoney has always had good customer service as far as my own experiences go, and they offer free returns and a one-year product guarantee, so as long as you order from them, you should be able to get a replacement should you have any problems.

Not 100% convinced by the travel lock. The travel lock is, in my opinion, a little confusing. While you hold the bottom button down for a few seconds to start up the vibrators, the travel lock is engaged by double-clicking that same button. The travel lock is then disengaged by double-clicking again, at which point the vibrator immediately starts going at its first setting. While I think it’s possible that the travel lock could be accidentally disengaged by being jostled inside of luggage, I still think it’s fairly unlikely that that would happen. Still, because it’s not as reliable a travel lock as my Tango X (which requires holding down two buttons at the same time to engage/disengage, and it doesn’t start vibrating after disengaging the lock, which seems preferable to me), I thought I’d mention it.

Bottom Line

Whether you’re new to sex toys and looking to explore, or an old pro just looking for new sensations, the Mon Ami Trio of Vibrating Massagers is an attractive, powerful set of vibrators for the money. You can buy the Trio at a reputable seller like Lovehoney – or you can even find them at Target! How progressive.
